Goji Berry, Lycium barbarum. Well-rooted plant in 9 cm square pot,
Lycium barbarum is a slightly spiny shrub that produces red berries rich in vitamins and antioxidants known as Goji berries. Although originally from China, from where they were introduced around 1600 they are fully hardy in the UK once established and will grow in most soil types, preferably moist but well drained with plenty of sunshine for the highest yields.
The berries are usually sold dried, as fresh berries tend to be damaged by picking and have a shorter shelf life than desirable for most supermarkets, which means that in order to sample the delicious taste of the fresh fruit you need to grow them yourself and get them. straight from the bush by shaking rather than picking
You are buying a well rooted plant in a 9 cm square pot. You can choose to transfer them to large patio containers or into the open garden as individual trees or part of a hedge. In the first year it is important to keep them well watered and make sure they do not dry out but once established they are more drought resistant.
The fruit is eaten by birds and other wildlife.
