Meum anthamaticum, Meu, Spignel, Baldmoney, one plant in 9 cm square pot
Meum anthamaticum, known by several common names, including Meu, Spignel, and Baldmoney, is a perennial native herb with finely pointed leaves, giving a very attractive, soft, green, feathery appearance. The very tactile leaves when crushed give off a strong, pleasantly sweet aroma.
A member of the Apiaceae it produces umbels of small white flowers, with a hint of pink, pollinated by bees and other insects.
It is found throughout much of Scotland and in a few locations in England.
It is very easy to grow, its soft texture providing a great contrast to more severe looking plants. It's a deciduous perennial whose leaves may die back in winter, regrowing vigorously from the tough roots in spring.
Plants grown in our nursery at Cupar, Fife. Scottish Government registration number S 03473. Registration includes annual plant health checks.
