Oxeye Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare). Three 9 cm square pots.
The biggest of our native daisies, the Oxeye Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare) is a familiar sight in sunny spots in the countryside and on roadside verges, as well as being grown as a garden plant. It should not be confused with Scentless Mayweed (Tripleurospermum inodorum) and Scented Mayweed (Matricaria recutita) which have similar flower heads but their leaves are very different, being very narrow and lacey compared to the simpler, broader, spoon shaped basal leaves and leaf-stalks of oxeye daisy.
Value to wildlife
Each of the yellow rays florets at the centre is packed with nectar for visiting bees, butterflies and hoverflies over a long period of the year, even surviving into December on sheltered verges.
Your Purchase
We are offering packs of three well rooted plants in 9 cm square pots. Our plants are grown from native seed (the photograph was taken prior to sowing) and can be planted out immediately or overwintered in pots in a frost-free place until the spring. Once they have grown bigger you can propagate them by dividing the roots, or by allowing the seed to find bare areas of soil in which to germinate.
