Red Campion (Silene dioica). 3 plants in 7 cm square pots
Red Campion (Silene dioica) is an ideal flower to brighten up an area of the garden that only gets sun for part of the day. Its pinkish red flowers produced from early spring to autumn, each have five deeply-notched petals.
Habitat
It is often found growing in hedgerows and on roadside verges.
Value to Wildlife
Its flowers are visited for nectar by moths, bees and butterflies and other pollinating insects.
It is a foodplant, along with White Campion, of caterpillars of several species of moth including the appropriately named. The Campion (Sideridis rivularis), and the Rivulet Moth (Perizona affinitata) both of which live inside the seed capsules eating the seeds.

In the Long Term
Red Campion is a perennial so the plants you are buying should grow again each spring, with well-developed seedlings appearing at the base of the the previous years stems by mid February, even after a chilly winter like that of 2021. It also produces copious amounts of seed in capsules, that are gradually shaken out by the wind and fall onto the surrounding soil.
Ladyburn Plant Nursery has been registered, by the Scottish Government, as a Professional Operator who is authorised to issue plant passports.
